In a recent interview on 531 PI’s Pacific Mornings, Dr Api Talemaitoga, the convener of the conference, discussed the current state of Pacific health services amid challenges in the health system. Dr Talemaitoga expressed confidence in the continued strength of Pacific health providers.
"Our Pasifika health providers in particular are going to work really hard to continue to deliver the service that they've been doing for the last 25 to 30 years," he said.
He emphasised that Pacific health providers have become adept at navigating challenges, ensuring that essential services remain intact.
The PMA 2024 Conference is expected to attract a large and diverse group of participants, with numbers anticipated to reach between 350 to 500 attendees. Dr Talemaitoga is particularly enthusiastic about the participation of health professionals from across the Pacific, including colleagues from Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga, who will share their insights and strategies for improving health outcomes in their respective nations.
"We're hoping that our Pacific health brothers and sisters from the Pacific are able to come through. We're just working through final details for who would like to come and attend, but not just attend, share with us what they are doing in their Pacific countries that are making a difference for their people.”
The conference will cover a wide range of topics, with sessions delving into areas such as youth mental health, chronic diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, and the care of elderly Pacific people, including discussions on issues like dementia and elder abuse.
The PMA Conference will be a crucial forum for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing Pacific health providers and serve as a platform to showcase the resilience and dedication of those committed to the health and well-being of Pacific communities.
