Pasifika Medical Association acknowledges Independent Review findings
Updates / News, 11 Sep 25
The Pasifika Medical Association Group (PMA) acknowledges the findings of the Independent Review into Pasifika Futures’ former role as a Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, released today by Te Puni Kōkiri.

Dr Kiki Maoate ONZM FRACS, Chair of PMA, said:

“We are happy with the findings of the review, which found no evidence that Whānau Ora commissioning funds were spent on matters outside Whānau Ora. As we expected, the review also did not disclose any breach of the Outcomes Agreement in relation to conflicts of interest.

The Review noted areas where greater clarity in documentation and contracting processes would have reduced complexity. PMA accepts these findings and supports the Review’s recommendations to strengthen systems and processes across all commissioning arrangements of this nature.

Our priority is continuing to ensure transparency and clarity remain central to how we operate.

PMA’s leadership has served Pacific communities with dedication for many years, demonstrating the credibility and capability to deliver this important work. The Board has full confidence in their ability to carry this mission forward.”

Debbie Sorensen ONZM, Chief Executive, said:

“For 29 years, PMA has delivered outcomes for Pacific families that have been consistently recognised for their positive impact on health and wellbeing. We stand by the principles that guide our decisions and the value of our work.

Our energy and focus remain on the communities, clinics and frontline staff we serve every day. This is where our work matters most, and where we will continue to make a difference.”
