This edition’s editorial piece is written by Phillip Bagshaw, John D Potter and Sue Bagshaw, titled "The looming spectres of public–private partnerships for hospitals and the resulting decline of government responsibility for comprehensive secondary healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand." 

In summary,  

“Public-private partnerships (PPPs) enable governments to construct, maintain, and sometimes operate public hospitals, leveraging financial borrowing and business expertise. 

Despite initial benefits, PPPs blur the line between private profit and government responsibility for equitable healthcare access.  

This has resulted in failed private hospitals and government bailouts in various countries like the UK, Australia, and Europe. Moreover, it risks transitioning towards a costly US-style private hospital system with unequal standards of care.”
